Our Mission
At Saqil Foundation, our mission is to enrich eager young minds across Latin America. We aim to connect students with extensive literature and scholarships to support their educational pursuits and passion to learn. Our initiatives will support schools with supplemental materials to help nourish minds who have the ability to make far reaching contributions to our world. Our mission is to be the bridge between the incredible potential of the Latin American youth and the realization of that potential to the improvement of the world’s most pressing issues.
Mariano Lopez del Rio visited Centro Pavarotti in San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala once in 2021 and then again in 2025 to conduct research to explore Mayan culture as it relates to education in Centro Pavarotti. Throughout his time there, he met many bright students who have passion to learn and interests to explore. These students spoke with inspiration and enthusiasm about their knowledge for subjects ranging from dinosaurs to mathematics. As he observed classes, spoke with teachers and connected with the students, Mariano noticed limitations in these students’ ability to learn, the lack of literature available to them and the lack of financial resources to support students who wanted to pursue university. Thus, Mariano founded Saqil, with the mission “to support education across Latin America by granting scholarships for continuing education and enhancing access to books through donating libraries.”
